About Merrill

To say Merrill Osmond has done it all might be a small overstatement. But in a career that has now spanned the better part of five decades, it’s safe to say there is not much Merrill hasn’t done, as an entertainer; as a leader; as a man.

As an entertainer, Merrill is perhaps best known as lead singer of the iconic group, The Osmonds.  Their impressive string of hits, like One Bad Apple, Crazy Horses, and Down by the Lazy River launched The Osmonds to legendary status.  With Merrill out front, they racked up a whopping 27 Gold records, including five number one songs.  The Osmonds received 11 Gold certifications in 1971, alone, and still hold the record for the most Gold records in a single year. Merrill also wrote several of The Osmonds’ classics.

Merrill’s exemplary leadership skills have established him as powerful influence in the music and entertainment industry.  He is a pioneering record producer, holding production credits on recordings by The Osmonds and other artists.  In the late 90s, Merrill served as Executive Producer of the Donny & Marie Show that aired on ABC-TV.  He has also produced programming for other networks and for the motion picture industry.

Merrill’s uncanny ability to lead and inspire people has caught the attention of two U.S. Presidents.  In 1981, President Ronald Reagan tapped Merrill to produce “The Making of an Inauguration.”  In 1989, President George H.W. Bush hired him to produce a similar project, “The Quincentennial Inaugural Ball.”

None of the accolades Merrill has received as an entertainer or leader afford him the satisfaction he gets from fulfilling what he considers his responsibilities as a man:  Not his two People’s Choice awards; Not his two Grammys; Not even the Osmond family’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.  “I believe we all have a responsibility to look out for each other,” Merrill says.

In 1983, Merrill co-founded the Children’s Miracle Network that has since raised more than $4 billion for children’s hospitals around the world. He is an avid supporter of Utah’s Special Olympics of which he bears the titles Honorary Chairman and Medalist, and has also lent his support to organizations that help families of deployed servicemen and women.  Never afraid to get his hands dirty, in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Merrill accompanied a Quick Response Relief Team to some of the hardest hit areas, offering emergency food and shelter to people who had literally lost everything.

With a stellar career behind him, Merrill could easily consider retirement.  Instead, he continues to release new music and remains a popular touring act, both solo and with his famous brothers.  “. “Music is an element that evokes all kinds of feelings that can be used to aid in healing like no other medium,” Merrill says of his life in music.  “I believe a song can change the world, so I plan to keep singing.”
